The Ooty Lake is the pride of the Blue Hills. John Sullivan, the then Collector of Coimbatore, built this artificial lake in 1824. The Ooty Lake about 2.5 km long and between 90 and 150 m wide, extends up to an area of 65 acres. Earlier the entire lake was used for fishing as a major activity. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation on behalf of the Tourism Department took the possession of the lake for pleasure boating facilities in 1973. A wide range of boats are available at the Boat House to suit varied tastes and budgets. A mini garden with an amusement park for children and a toy train are added attractions here.

The Ooty Deer Park is a unique wilderness situated on the fringes of the Ooty lake. It is one of the high altitude animal parks in India. The park is a beautiful place and offers a unique opportunity to observe and study wildlife in near natural habitat. The total area of the Deer Park is 22 acres out of which an area of 6 acres has been developed and is open to public.

This garden divided into six different sections ,was laid out in 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale, the then Governor of Madras and is spread over 55 acres ascending the slopes on the hill at an elevation of 2400 - 2500 metres above M.S.L. Lush green well maintained lawns, rare tree species (like the cork tree which is probably the only such tree in India, the paper bark tree and the monkey puzzle tree - monkeys cannot climb this tree), a 20 million year old fossilized tree, an Italian - style garden bordering a clear pool, a vast variety of flowering bushes and plants in myriad hues (exotic and ornamental), fern house with vast range of ferns and orchids, are some of the many highlights of this garden. A flower show along with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every year in the month of May at this Garden.

The small gothic-style St Stephen's Church, built in 1829 and situated northwest of Charing Cross, is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiri mountains. Its huge wooden beam came from the palace of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatnam, carried all the 120 km by a team of elephants. The attached cemetery contains the grave of John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty.

To commemorate the Centenary Flower festival, the Rose Garden was established covering an area of 4 hectares in five terraces. The rose varieties planted in this park were assembled from different sources. Initially, 17,256 rose plants from 1919 varieties have been planted. Later on some more varieties are added marking the total as 20,000 with 2241 varieties.

The Lake Park is situated on the banks of the Ooty lake. The reclaimed area of Lake was formed as a garden in the year 1977 .The garden was formed so as to enable them to enjoy natural beauty with illumination during dark hours. A fiberglass dome was constructed in 1978 to add attraction to the garden.

This is the first Sanctuary to be set up in India and forms part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Park. It is located 36 kms from Ooty via Kalhatty. At an elevation of 1,140 mtrs, the Sanctuary extends over an area of 321 sq. kms at the junction of three states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala. A variety of habitat ranging from tropical evergreen forest to dry teak forests are found here.
It is also rich in wildlife with animals like elephants, gaur, tiger, panther, spotted deer, barking deer, wild boar, porcupine etc.and birds like-minuets ,hornbill, fairy blue birds, jungle fowls etc., and reptiles like python, monitor lizards, flying lizards etc. The beauty of the sanctuary can best be relished on the elephant back.

The Ooty Golf Course is unique and playing on it is an exceptional experience. It is an 18 hole natural golf course located at a height of 1,400 ft above MSL and is spread over an area of 193 acres.
